Caring for children and young people who are experiencing difficulties can be a challenging time for parents, particularly when problems already exist within the family.

In response to complex cases where generic parenting courses and group work do not provide intensive and robust parenting support, Penina Social Work Services Ltd offers targeted parenting intervention work that is tailored to individual families and their specific needs. 

Support is provided by trained and highly experienced qualified social workers and family support practitioners. 

Sessions are delivered to parents to provide them with skills and strategies for improving their approach through one to one interactive teaching within the family home over a 12 to 16-week period. 

The parenting intervention is informed by recent research in reparative parenting and nationally recognised parenting models such as PAMS (Parenting Assessment Manual for parents with learning disabilities); Incredible Years (for parents with children aged 4 to 12-years-old); Triple P (Positive Parenting Plus) and Family Links Nurturing programme. 

Parenting intervention is also tailored to the risk factors identified in cases such as substance misuse, domestic violence and mental health difficulties. The purpose is to target intervention where it is needed most and assist parents in gaining insight into how parental difficulties within the specific family impact the children’s emotional needs.

Parents ability to implement strategies and retain knowledge is assessed and documented in interim and final reports that are provided to commissioning Local Authorities to assist in safeguarding, care planning and provision of future support. 

This service can be commissioned on a one-off basis with delivery and costs tailored to the specific needs of the family.
